A teenage girl with no connection to her past discovers a collection of films that bridge the gap between the life her parents once fled from, and the only world she's ever known. When Basti and Miora were expectant parents, their country was consumed by war. Determined that their daughter would not be raised under the specter of death, they gambled their lives to get out of Otisia. And it worked. Years later, their little girl Vai has grown into a headstrong teenager. And Vai has never bothered to explore her roots. But when she unearths film showing her parents guiding a group of German filmmakers through Otisia, she recruits her best friend Katie to help shoot a documentary that will lead them both on an eye-opening journey into the dark past, when the faint flicker of hope was enough to fuel the fight for a new life.
