Australia has a wealth of colorful characters, and one, a Robin Hood-like outlaw, was the inspiration for a play by C. Haddon Chambers which was subsequently made into a film twice, once in 1914, and this version, starring the debonair Earle Williams. The story opens up with Captain Swift (Williams) running from the police after a bank robbery. While being pursued over the desert, he runs into a prospector dying of thirst. He tries to save the man, but fails, so he switches clothes with him and manages to elude his pursuers. He makes his way to England, where he mingles in high social circles and falls in love with Stella Darbisher (Florence Dixon), the ward of Lord and Lady Seabrook (Downing Clarke and Adelaide Prince). A servant recognizes Swift as the fugitive outlaw and tries unsuccessfully to blackmail him. So he reveals Swift's identity to a detective. But Swift has found a friend -- an Australian banker who knows who he is, but who also knows that he is basically a good man. Together, they foil the detective. It turns out that Swift is the long-lost son of Lady Seabrook, which gives him a title and the ability to marry Stella.
