When Big Dan Rides is, to put it bluntly, silent melodrama at its hoariest. John Lowell, who produced the Big Dan series in, of all places, Gloversville, NY, makes a fine hero in the William S. Hart mold but the supporting cast is straight out of tent shows. There is an unintentionally hilarious sequence where the rather porcine femme fatale blithely continues to attack a healthy breakfast while an accomplice desperately attempts to attract her attention. We can only hope that the scene was completed in one take!
