Synopsis by Mark Deming
When PBS inaugurated their live music series Sessions at West 54th in 1998, one of the first acts to appear on the show was Ben Folds Five, the witty guitar-less pop trio from North Carolina who had recently completed their first major-label album. Ben Folds Five: The Complete Sessions at West 54th preserves the complete, unedited record of the set the group played for the cameras, including much material that didn't make it to the final broadcast (and a few songs repeated in hopes of a stronger second take). Selections include "Brick," "Missing the War" "The Battle of Who Could Care Less," "Song of the Dumped," and many more.
