Synopsis by Mark Deming

Mieke Gerritzen is an artist and designer who uses typography as a medium to communicate her ideas about contemporary culture and politics. Gerritzen first film, Beautiful World, is a project that uses Helvetica type, patterns and bright colors as its palate. Gerritzen fills her screen with quotes from thinkers from around the world -- some famous, some not -- who share their views about global economics. Together, their thoughts convey the message that money is gradually supplanting all else in the hearts and minds of the world's leaders. Beautiful World was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
