Synopsis by Mark Deming

The underground economy of a village along the Iranian coast becomes dangerous when human beings are added to the manifest in this drama. Motu (Omid Abdollahi) is the leader of a gang of young people who make their money by gleaning smuggled cargo from the sea, recovering abandoned merchandise and taking on illegal materials. While their families are often part of the operation, Motu's father has faded out of the picture; he vanished while smuggling illegal aliens, and no one knows where he is or even if he's still alive. As the stakes of Motu's business become riskier, his fence (Heydayat Hashemi) grows increasingly uneasy as he faces pressure from his wife and struggles with his health. Aram bash va ta haft beshmar (aka Be Calm And Count To Seven) was the first feature film from writer and director Ramtin Lavafipour.
