Synopsis by Robert Firsching

Greek filmmaker Nikos Vergitsis wrote and directed this downbeat drama about a composer and chess player named Aris (Antonis Kafetzopoulos) who decides to commit suicide within a month unless he can hear the word "passion" spoken by a pretty French girl named Aphrodite (Isabel Otero). Aphrodite had survived a plane crash 12 years earlier, and Aris sets off to track her down, gaining the trust of her nostalgic husband, Gregoire (Patrick Bauchau), and playing chess with a haunted Japanese man along the way. As in most of Vergitsis' films, the characters are all beaten down by their efforts to run away from inescapable destinies which they must eventually play out, giving the story the air of an academic exercise, and a depressing one at that. Nevertheless, the film is well made and competently acted, if not necessarily anyone's idea of a good time. Olia Lazaridou co-stars with Fenya Papadodima and Lydia Ewande.
