Review by Buzz McClain

There is a temptation not to reveal this tight little thriller's twist, so cunningly laid out in the early going that even the most patient viewer is liable to step into its trap. Suffice to say, however, that once the Big Reveal is made, the story only winds tighter, as the heroine becomes imperiled without even knowing it. There's a patina of made-for-TV-ness in the production., which means everything is nicely lit and the rooms are patiently decorated. In other words, there's not much edginess to the look -- but the suffocating, psychotic nature of the antagonist is successfully rendered. A tiny bit of the sticky tension of Face/Off arises, but then director Peter Liapis backs off, as if the possibilities were too dire for his intentions. In any case, Alone With a Stranger easily achieves its ambition to amuse.
