Synopsis by Augustine Chay
This documentary recuperates the now-forgotten legacy of writer Nelson Algren, who achieved fame in the late 1940s and early 1950s for his literary representations of the American underclass. Drawing from archival footage of Algren and interviews with many of his associates, it examines the interconnections between Algren’s life and art, his affair with Simone de Beauvoir, and his continued influence on a new generation of artists and thinkers. Directed by Michael Caplan.
