In this romantic drama from India, Karthik (Madhavan) is an intelligent and ambitious computer expert who falls in love with Sakthi (Shalini), a young and idealistic doctor. Karthik and Sakthi want to get married, but both have been pledged to others in matches arranged by their parents. Defying tradition, Karthik and Sakthi wed, but keep the nuptials a secret from their families and continue living at home, meeting on the sly at a train station. In time, the truth comes out, and the young couple starts a home of their own after being rejected by their parents. At first, Karthik and Sakthi find great happiness in their new life together, but their bond is tested when Sakthi becomes severely ill and Karthik tries to make peace with her family after the death of Sakthi's father.
