Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

Managing to hold on to the reins of his stagecoach despite the nefarious attempts by Slade (Reed Howes) to sabotage the race, Red Ryder (Donald Barry) drives his team to victory and wins the 1,000-dollar purse. Realizing that Red is now able to meet his payments and thus save the Double R Ranch from ruin, Ace Hanlon (Noah Beery) assigns one of his henchmen, Matt Grimes (Ernest Sarracino), to assassinate the pesky young rancher. But the hired hand mistakenly kills rancher Ed Madison (Edwin Brady) and Red, who owed Ed money, is accused of the crime. Trailing the real killer to a shack in the desert, Red forces him to sign a confession on a wooden table and then has Little Beaver (Tommy Cook) summon the Double R hands to help bring Grimes back to Mesquite. But Little Beaver mistakenly spills the beans to Ace Hanlon and instead of the cowboys, Red is met by a hail of bullets from Slade and his henchmen.
