Synopsis by Mark Deming

New love feeds a woman's deepest fears in this independent drama. Julie (Jess Weixler) is a shy young woman who one day happens to meet a handsome and mysterious man. As the two get to know one another, Julie learns the stranger is Max Oliver (Willem Dafoe), a well-known author. Max is still struggling emotionally with the death of his wife Lucia (Mariela Franganillo), a famous dancer, but with Julie he begins to come to terms with his grief, and as he falls for her, he asks her to leave New York and come with him to his estate in Italy. Against the strong advice of her friends, Julie accepts Max's offer, but as she learns more about the new man in her life, she becomes increasingly fascinated with the story of his widow. Soon Julie has become obsessed with Lucia, and she's hobbled by jealousy and feelings of inadequacy brought on by a woman she has never met. A Woman was written and directed by Giada Colagrande, who is also the wife of leading man Willem Dafoe.
