Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Manda Meyer Upakhyan (A Tale of a Naughy Girl) is set in a Bengali village in 1969. Lati (Samata Das) is the virgin daughter of renowned local prostitute Rajani (Rituparna Sengupta). Lati draws the attention of sleazy businessman Natabar Paladhi (Ramgopal Bajaj). Lati is uncomfortable with the thought of being kept by Natabar, and enlists the assistance of teacher Pradeep Mukherjee). A Tale of a Naughty Girl was screened at the Toronto Film Festival.
