The deadliest attack on American soil, 9/11 permanently altered the course of American life, history, politics, and world events. Yet 9/11’s significance as the worst manmade environmental disaster to impact a densely populated American city is largely hidden from public memory. 9/11’s Unsettled Dust tells the story of this disaster and investigates the devastating public health impacts caused by the dereliction of duty on the part of the EPA, the Bush administration, and the Giuliani administration to respond appropriately to widespread toxic contamination and cancer cases amongst first responders in the aftermath of 9/11.The film follows the epic battle fought by sick and dying 9/11 responders as they spent years advocating for the passage of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act to pay for their costly health care, and to compensate their families for their disabilities and deaths. While the story 9/11’s Unsettled Dust tells is tragic, it reveals the immense courage and generosity of tens of thousands of Americans and undocumented immigrant workers who came together at Ground Zero on behalf of the common good, and later waged a powerful grassroots campaign for health care legislation benefiting 9/11 responders and survivors.
