American screenwriter Lionel Houser (aka Lionel Hauser) was signed by RKO in 1935. It was Houser who wrote the original story for the Lupe Velez starrer The Girl from Mexico (1939), which launched RKO's profitable "Mexican Spitfire" series. He then moved on to assignments at MGM, Republic and Warner Bros. Lionel Houser's most memorable scripting efforts include MGM's Courage of Lassie (1943) and Warners' Christmas in Connecticut (1945).
