Originally trained as an actor, Latif Fayziev made his debut feature as a director in 1953 with Baj I Batrak/The Rich Man and the Rustic, which he co-helmed with Aleksandr Gincburg. Before that, Fayziev had studied film direction at Moscow's VGIK under Igor Savchenko. While a student, Fayziev utilized his acting skills in Savchenko's Tretiy Udar/The Third Blow (1948). Following his 1951 graduation from the prestigious film school, Fayziev worked at Tashent's Uzbek Film Studies. In addition to making fictional features, Fayziev also made documentaries and dance films for television. Between 1958 and 1967, Fayziev served as the first secretary of the Union of Uzbek Filmmakers.
