Biography by AllMovie

An enterprising young Austrian actor/writer, John Reinhardt arrived in Hollywood shortly before the advent of sound to play Prince Milan in Norman Kerry's The Prince of Hearts (1929) and other such roles. He reached a zenith of sorts as Jean Hersholt's lovesick son in Universal's first version of Edward Locke's 1910 melodrama The Climax (1930; the role, slightly altered, was played by Turhan Bey in the 1944 Technicolor remake). Turning to directing, Reinhardt worked on both sides of the Atlantic but is perhaps best remembered for helming the 1948 Cold War melodrama Sofia. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Reinhardt should not be confused with American musical comedy star and Thanhouser actor John Reinhard.
