Biography by AllMovie

Spanish director Jesús Garay learned his craft as an amateur filmmaker while living in his hometown of Santander. In 1972, Garay received professional training at Barcelona's Institut del Teatre while making amateur films. Garay's first professional feature, an unusual adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea entitled Nemo which featured neither dialogue, sets, or action, was made in 1977, but it was not released theatrically. It was, however, re-edited and later shown on Televisió de Catalunya (aka TV3). Garay's sophomore effort, Manderley (1980), was more successful. In addition to his career as a director, Garay is a noted writer of short stories.
