The younger brother of prolific director William Beaudine, Harold Beaudine began his own screen career as a prop boy and production assistant for the American Biograph company's West Coast division. He later became an assistant director and director for short comedy producer Al Christie, helming farces starring such also-ran comedians as Jimmie Adams and Bobby Vernon. Unlike his more famous brother, Harold Beaudine left film directing shortly after the changeover to sound. He was the first cousin of silent screen star William Russell.
