Biography by AllMovie

Independent documentarist Gail Singer is noted for her intelligently presented socially progressive and feminist subjects including Arctic oil spills, mercury poisoning on Canadian waterways, battered women, abortion, breastfeeding, and artist profiles. Most of her documentaries follow a straightforward, traditional style. She began her career in the late '60s as a researcher and assistant; she also worked as a locations manager for feature films. Though she has primarily been an independent filmmaker, she has occasionally worked with the National Film Board of Canada.
