Biography by AllMovie

German filmmaker Eric Charell was first known for directing and producing stage operettas and musical revues. He made his film directorial debut with producer Erich Pommer on Congress Dances an extravagant musical chronicle of early German sound films. It was an international box-office success and was released in English, French and German. The film's success resulted in an invitation for Charell to direct the Hollywood film Caravan (1934), featuring Charles Boyer and Loretta Young. Unfortunately, the film was unsuccessful and Charell's movie career abruptly fizzled. After this film he only occasionally worked, usually in collaboration on screenplays.
