Synopsis by Mark Deming
A man running away from battle walks into a skirmish that's a reflection of the conflict he's left behind in this short drama. It's 1990 in the city of Tirgu Mures, and Hungarians and Romanians are locked in violent civil conflict. A soldier in the Romanian military, hungry and tired, abandons his post and searches for a safe place to hide from the fighting. The soldier discovers a block station, where a Hungarian line inspector is living with his daughter. The soldier takes shelter in a storage building nearby, but the daughter soon discovers his presence, with the inspector following shortly after, and a battle of wits is waged between them. Zapping was the first film from writer and director Cristian Mungiu.
