Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The fact that leading man Nils Asther was firmly entrenched in Hollywood in 1929 is proof enough that the German Wrath of the Sea was filmed several years before its American release. A WWI picture, the film endeavors to stress the gallantry attending that conflict, rather than its horror. The story takes place during the Battle of Jutland, in which a German and an English naval officer -- close friends in civilian life -- are pitted against one another in mortal combat. A subplot concerns the unhappy marriage between the German and his neglected wife. At war's end, the now-widowed wife emigrates to England, where she ends up wedding the British officer who reluctantly sent her husband to the bottom of the sea.
