Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Folk icon Vashti Bunyan recalls the remarkable journey that inspired her most influential work in this documentary from director Kieran Evans. It was during the mid-1960s that Bunyan first began to pursue her dreams of pop stardom, and after crossing paths with Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham it seemed as if she was well on her way. Shortly thereafter, Bunyan signed to Decca and recorded a single penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It appeared at the time as if Bunyan's dreams of stardom were set to come true, though after being touted as "the next Marianne Faithful" she shied away from the spotlight and her musical career floundered. In 1968, the disillusioned songwriter heard about a creative colony that had recently been established on the Isle of Sky, purchased a horse and cart, and, along with her boyfriend, began the two-year journey north. It was her experiences during that extended voyage that would inform her next album Just Another Diamond Day, which she recorded alongside famed record producer Joe Boyd. At the time of it's release, Just Another Diamond Day received a lukewarm response from fans and critics, though over the next few decades it's reputation continued to grow. In this film, Bunyan reflects on the inspirations behind her landmark work while preparing to perform before an appreciative crowd at the Barbican, Europe's largest multi-arts and conference venue.
