Review by Donald Guarisco

This late entry into the post-Scream "ironic" slasher movie cycle has plenty of elaborate murder scenes and plot twists yet is surprisingly dull. The first problem with Urban Legends: Final Cut is the script, which is more interested in taking glib, superficial digs at Hollywood and film schools instead of trying to create a challenging plot or dimensional characters. As a result, it lumbers from set piece to set piece in an uninspired fashion and the plot twists ring hollow because there is no reason for the viewer to care about what is going on. John Ottman's direction wears its stylistic influences on its sleeve (visual references are made to everything from Peeping Tom to Blow Out) but he lacks the inspiration to do anything interesting with these influences and ultimately settles for rehashing the same old slasher movie clichés. The final blow to Urban Legends: Final Cut comes from its performances, which are either overdone (Anson Mount) or so underplayed that they seem somnambulistic (Jennifer Morrison). Only Loretta Devine shows any signs of life with her spunky turn as the school's security guard (the only returning character from the previous film). In the end, Urban Legends: Final Cut is too uninspired and lifeless to interest anyone except slasher movie addicts.
