Review by Jeremy Wheeler

Despite no one wanting it, here comes the third installment of the long-buried Urban Legends franchise, though this time, it has horror veteran Mary Lambert (Pet Sematary) behind the lens and a good few years of Japanese horror to rip off. Despite the director's involvement -- along with the writers of X-Men 2 -- this entry is just another so-so straight-to-video title that is sure to get lost within the backlog of DVD sequels that end up on "previously-viewed" sale shelves. Sure, there's more meat to the story's mystery than in your usual hack and slasher (and certainly the previous two entries), but the plot plods along at a snail's pace, so that when the glorified deaths come, the audience has already hit the kitchen for some popcorn and a brew. One thing the flick does have going for it are a few inspired kills, starting with the infamous spider zit scene! Though the clip suffers a bit from CG spider-mania, Lambert ramps up the hysteria to an almost-gonzo level that's both cringe-worthy and applaudable. Rumor has it that there will be an uncut version made available down the road, which would give genre fans more of a reason to hunt this down. The way it stands now, only the most forgiving viewer would walk away satisfied with this release.
