Review by Linda Rasmussen

"Think Eskimos!" screams the outrageous, extroverted fashion-designer Isaac Mizrahi, in this entertaining, engagingly superficial documentary about the fashion business. Mizrahi, having had several bad seasons, is desperate for inspiration for his new collection. He finds it in Loretta Young stylish and chic in 1935's Call of the Wild who looks sensational even after giving birth in an igloo and fighting with sled dogs. Unzipped features a cast of superficial, competitive, over-paid supermodels, celebrity friends and enemies, and very opinionated magazine editors, all of whom must be charmed and catered to, while Mizrahi must do the very real work of putting together his collection. This is perhaps the best film to date about the fashion industry, showing it through the offbeat, campy eyes of Mizrahi and his mother, who was always sure of his genius. The fashion show at the finale of the film is a treat, as Mizrahi succeeds in pleasing the crowd and saving his career and his sanity. The film is bitchy, irreverent and witty fun and a delightful look at how the creative process must also deal with economic reality.
