Review by Fred Beldin

As scripted by the legendary Larry Cohen (It's Alive, God Told Me To), the story of Uncle Sam meanders back and forth between ultra-patriotic fervor and subversively anti-government sentiments, often confusing in stance but certainly more interesting than the standard zombie slasher story. Veteran horror director William Lustig keeps things moving quickly despite an obviously low budget, and Isaac Hayes is clumsy, but fun to watch as the one-legged Vietnam veteran who helps to save the day. The imagery of Uncle Sam murdering American citizens might have had more bite in a different era (it's a surprise no one thought of it back in the late '60s), but for all its goofiness, Uncle Sam delivers a unique ride for horror fans.
