Review by Hans J. Wollstein

No evidence of the legendary Edgar G. Ulmer style is to be found in Thunder Over Texas, a rough-hewn low-budget affair typical of its day. Ulmer aficionados hoping to discover another Black Cat or Detour will be sorely disappointed. Guinn "Big Boy" Williams was not star material and would do much better in supporting roles, usually playing dumb jock types. Here, Big Boy is at the mercy of a scene-stealing co-star, the six-year-old daughter of actor Gordon Westcott. Helen Westcott would retire before her teens only to return as an ingenue in such films as Mr. Belvedere Goes to College (1949), The Gunfighter (1950), and Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1953).
