Review by Craig Butler

Members of the Jean Harlow Appreciation Society and/or devotees of pre-Code films are most likely to enjoy Three Wise Girls, a rather pedestrian morality tale that comes across as quite dated when seen today. This was Harlow's first big leading role, and she comes out very much on top. As a matter of fact, it's a delight to see the sexy Harlow playing a rather innocent "good girl" type and pulling it off winningly. One misses the edge that Harlow would be allowed to bring to some of her later roles, but she does all that's required of her and then some, bringing a great deal of life to Girls that the project would otherwise lack. It's also fun to see a 1930s film in which the topic of dating married men is handled openly, even if those who engage in the practice still come to a bad end that seems a bit excessive. In addition to Harlow, Girls offers fine performances from Mae Clark, Marie Prevost, Andy Devine and Walter Byron, even if all are hampered by the mundane and dull writing. William Beaudine's direction is so-so.
