Review by Buzz McClain

B-movie fans know what they're in for when they unspool a Casper Van Dien direct-to-video feature. Like The Time Shifters and Python and who knows how many others, you can bet that there's enough money spent to make it look good, even if the story and dialogue serve no greater purpose than to hold together the great-looking action scenes. And so it is with The Tracker, which has the earmarks of being a failed effort at creating an ongoing franchise for the chiseled-chin golden boy. There's nothing in this competent actioner to put off genre fans, but there's little to put it over the top for general audiences. Van Dien and Russell Wong have several hard-hitting scenes of chop socky (in range-limiting business suits) and there is gunplay aplenty, but their chemistry -- Van Dien's eager-beaverness, Wong's hesitant aloofness -- doesn't ignite the screen. The best aspect of the film is the nifty twist at the finale, which others may see coming but had us fooled. Françoise Robertson provides sexy comic relief as an action-starved cabbie.
