Review by Hans J. Wollstein

Although largely forgotten today, Ann Harding enjoyed quite a following in the early 1930s, where her capable yet repressed heroines apparently struck some kind of cord. But like the equally forgotten Ruth Chatterton, Harding's special blend of competence and rather dowdy glamour didn't last long and such dreary potboilers as The Right to Romance all but finished her off. It didn't matter that RKO brought the more vivacious Robert Young over from M-G-M and borrowed the intriguing Sari Maritza from Paramount, this story of a devoted plastic surgeon marrying a young bounder remains as lifeless as they come. Ann Harding playing coy may have held a certain appeal in 1933; at this late day and age, she comes across as merely exasperating.
