Review by Hans J. Wollstein

There is a scene in The Night Hawk where the ubiquitous Robert Livingstone is trapped in the cargo hold of a ship and about to be blasted with scalding steam. Livingstone, who was taking time off from his B-Western duties, manages to survive this serial-like peril no worse for wear but for a while there it did appear as though gangster boss Robert Armstrong had finally gotten rid of a pesky adversary and the scene remains the highlight of this otherwise hum-drum effort from Republic Pictures. That the studio borrowed June Travis from Warner Bros. may suggest aspirations beyond the bottom of a double bill, but if that's the case, everyone must have been sorely disappointed. Watch for Dwight Frye as a gang member masquerading as a ship's steward.
