Review by Bruce Eder

Lest anyone think they've discovered a "lost" Samuel Fuller title, The Meanest Men in the West is hardly that. It does contain two good scenes from a Fuller-directed (and written) episode of television series The Virginian entitled "It Tolls for Thee," which are badly edited and intercut with scenes from a much later, totally unrelated episode of the same series. The performances have been so badly chopped up that it's impossible to appreciate the acting, much less the directing, though The Meanest Men in the West does constitute a strange piece of Fuller ephemera. Better they should have released "It Tolls for Thee" intact.
