Review by Donald Guarisco

With a title like The Long Island Cannibal Massacre, one is safe in guessing that this film is only for horror fans -- and a very select group of them at that. Indeed, this movie wears its amateurism on its sleeve like a perverse badge of pride; the performances are so bad they seem defiantly inept, the Super-8 cinematography is one big blurry smudge, and the demented plotline throws out any semblance of character or cohesive storytelling to wallow in a mix of schlock movie clichés and amateur-night gore. Thus, it's safe to say that The Long Island Cannibal Massacre is likely to alienate the majority of the viewing public. The only real audience for this film is gorehounds with a deep-seated love of trash. Those select viewers might find some rewards of a singular type here: the film's sheer badness can be hypnotic and the morbidly inspired, almost surreal gore-a-thon finale is something trash aficionados should see at least once. To sum up, The Long Island Cannibal Massacre might offer some ironic pleasures for the right viewer but it's definitely for specialized tastes only.
