The folks at Monogram may have been extremely tight with a buck but even tightwads could not ruin a film featuring such genre professionals as J. Farrell MacDonald, Mary Gordon, Polly Ann Young and George Pembroke. Especially the latter, one of poverty row's best if least appreciated madmen, is memorable in The Last Alarm, a maniacal firebug masquerading as a benign antiquarian. The Last Alarm be not be cinematic art but it remains a pleasant way to spend an hour or so.
