Director D. Ross Lederman, screenwriter Frank Howard Clark, and star Tim McCoy were rather too ambitious for their own good this time around. The Fighting Marshal attempted to be more than a mere oater, but the result is rambling and sometimes downright incomprehensible. Too many villains with too many motives are introduced then discarded and the murder of McCoy's father is never solved. The pace is typical early talkie Western and comes to a complete standstill when leading lady Dorothy Gulliver warbles a badly recorded ditty. Both McCoy and Gulliver must have longed for the good old silent days while making this dull Western.
