Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
Juno, the Greek goddess of marriage, lends her name and blessing to the popular tradition of the June bride. This documentary reveals this link to the past, as well as exploring the origins of the many traditions and rituals that are part of the American wedding experience. Tracing the standards of wedding protocol back to their roots produces interesting findings. The viewer learns the meaning of the wedding cake, the white wedding dress, the tradition of "something blue," and the throwing of the bouquet and garter. Archival film footage, artworks, interviews with historians, and personal accounts make for a lively and often humorous look at America's nuptial celebrations.
