Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Benjamin escaped from the death camps of Germany in 1943 and settled in Tel Aviv. There, he meets up with a nice Polish girl and gets married. She is from a country village and finds life in Tel Aviv quite diverting. He is used to the hothouse intellectual stimulation of Berlin and finds it quite dull. When he meets a woman who is more on a par with him culturally, he begins pursuing her, to the detriment of his relations with his wife and children. Benjamin is also unsure what to do when he spots a man living in Tel Aviv who served as a capo (a Jewish prisoner who carried out Nazi orders in return for privileges) in the camps.
