Synopsis by Maggie Sadler
Documentary filmmaker Cindy L. Abel takes an incisive look into sexual identity politics within the traditionalist microcosm of the American armed forces. Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer and Colonel Patsy Thompson subverted regulation to pursue a relationship during their U.S. Army Nursing Corps service until superior officers learned of Cammermeyer's orientation, later demanding a trial to expel her from the military. Navigating a complex web of morality and duty, Thompson presided over the hearing, ultimately ushering in significant military policy reform in defiance of its outdated modes.
