Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The town of Plainfield Illinois had always felt safe from serious tornadoes--until August 5, 1990. On that day, a F5 twister tore through and flattened the tiny community with winds reaching a speed of 300 miles. 29 people died in this costliest tornado of 1990, which is vividly recreated by the Storm Stories staff with the help of several survivors of the twister. Originally telecast on the 15th anniversary of the tornado, the episode features several relatives of the interviewees, playing the "younger" versions of the children who managed to escape with their lives.
