Review by Hans J. Wollstein

Although the story had been told many times before, Six Gun Gospel manages to entertain by keeping its pace lickety-split. Director Lambert Hillyer, who had worked with William S. Hart in the silent era, was fast becoming Johnny Mack Brown's favorite and Six Gun Gospel remains a thoroughly workmanlike affair despite a skimpy budget. Although slightly too hefty for comfort by 1943, Mack Brown was one of the B-Western genre's better thespians and he is surrounded here by a top-notch supporting cast that includes the always welcome Raymond Hatton as the comedy relief sidekick, the veteran Kenneth MacDonald as the Boss Villain, and Roy Barcroft as the chief henchman. Eddie Dew and Inna Gest, as a Wells Fargo agent and his girlfriend, supply the romantic interest in the conventional manner.
