A free-spirited Shanghai beauty becomes torn between Eastern tradition and western glamour after falling for two men who couldn't be more different. Coco (Bai Ling) is a true bohemian; she's a fixture on the Shanghai art scene, she sleeps with whomever she pleases, and she's working hard to complete her first novel. When Coco meets brooding Chinese artist Tiantian, there's an immediate connection. Tiantian is a painter who subsists on money sent to him by his mother, who lives abroad. In his constant search for beauty, he was irresistibly drawn to the charismatic Coco. It would seem they're the perfect couple, but then Coco meets Marc. A business consultant from Berlin, Marc is handsome and virile. Though Coco feels that she may be falling in love with Tiantian, her relationship with Marc is based on a powerful lust. She isn't dissuaded by the revelation that Marc is married with children, but the fact that he may soon return to Berlin leads her to have second thoughts about their relationship. Meanwhile, Tiantian becomes addicted to heroin, and begins to deteriorate right before Coco's eyes. In wanting to have it all, Coco stands to lose everything, and potentially destroy the lives of both men in the process.
