Review by Bruce Eder

This B-thriller might have been a major bottom-of-the-bill discovery with a bit more money and time devoted to it -- as it is, it isn't a bad little picture in the "had I but known" school of romantic suspense. Helmut Dantine dominates the movie in the role of the mysterious husband, and Andrea King, despite some scenes that appear rushed and artificial, is overall very believable as the innocent bride caught up in a marriage more dangerous than she bargained for. It's also funny, to modern viewers familiar with William Prince in older, patrician roles, to see him here as a slick, initially threatening attorney -- think of what, in a Universal thriller of the period, would have been the Dan Duryea part. The supporting players give the film 110% effort on their part, which helps immeasurably in what was obviously a very fast shoot, and even assist in a credibility-threatening slightly-too-fast wind-up to the story. It's all a lot of fun as well as nastily chilling at times, and this picture would have been right at home on a double-bill with, say, Edgar G. Ulmer's Strange Illusion.
