Although the plot for The Saga of Death Valley comes straight out of a B-Western writer's manual, producer-director Joseph Kane, ace cinematographer Jack Marta, and editor Les Orlebeck create excitement, constant movement, and the usual Republic know-how. Add fine performances by Roy Rogers, George "Gabby" Hayes, Frank M. Thomas, Hal Taliaferro, Jack Ingram, and, especially, future star Don "Red" Barry and you have one of the best series Western entries of the late '30s.
