Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

Rom is a Greek documentary about Europe's ubiquitous and peripatetic underclass: the Gypsies. The Gypsies received the name "Rom" from the U.N. in 1979. As a group, they are known to have traveled from India many centuries ago. In this documentary, four people discuss their lives as members of the "Rom," and their experiences with members of this group. Among the other issues raised are certain damaging old myths about the Rom, such as that they forged the nails for the crucifixion. In addition to some of the shadier crafts associated with this people, the Rom have also traditionally been involved in horse training and circus acrobatics.
