Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

Despite its allegedly having US co-producers, this late Soviet-era documentary gives every evidence of being a standard Cold War propaganda piece. Despite its creative interpretations of the historical record, it could be of considerable interest to history buffs and World War II buffs, as it contains a great deal of never-before seen archival footage which was finally made available due to the advent of glasnost. Ranging over a large period of time but sustaining a focus on the development and proliferation of the atom bomb, one of the highlights of the documentary is it's presentation of one side's view of the Klaus Fuchs (atom bomb) spy case. If you've ever wanted to see one of the propaganda pieces which claim that the Soviets did nearly everything first or did it better, this is a film you must see.
