Not quite living up to its reputation as the quintessential Ken Maynard oater, Range Law at least has a beautiful leading lady in Frances Dade, formerly a victim of Bela Lugosi's Dracula. Despite Maynard's popularity, Range Law must have felt like a comedown for the blonde Dade, whose only Western it was to be. Maynard, meanwhile, has his hands full being charming and sometimes downright coy -- at one point, Range Law stops dead in its tracks while Ken plays with a couple of cute kittens -- and in the end there is precious little evidence of his former panache in this early sound Western from independent producer Phil Goldstone.
