Synopsis by Dan Pavlides

The literal translation of the title of this film is "Empty Trip." A newspaper reporter is sent to cover a story about a Siberian truck driver with a stellar driving record. He hauls the truckloads of lumber over snow-covered roads and manages to avoid the breakdowns and repairs of his fellow drivers. The reporter soon discovers that the driver alters his logbook and takes a perilous shortcuts over dangerous terrain -- while his employers have praised the driver for his efforts, unaware of his actions. When the reporter discovers the truth about the driver, the driver is relieved that he no longer has to live a lie. On the way to the train station, a gas leak disables the truck in the bitter cold of a blinding snowstorm. The truck driver tries to keep the reporter from falling asleep and freezing as the two wait to be rescued from the desolate, untraveled road. The film was a prize winner at the Moscow Film Festival.
