Review by Buzz McClain

"I really want to do legitimate movies," Ron Jeremy says over and over throughout Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy until it's like a mantra. It's easy to see that the documentary is a thinly veiled last-ditch appeal to mainstream producers and directors to hire Jeremy for non-porn movies before he gets too old to make much of a career. But there's no denying he's had quite a career already -- 1,600 porn movies and counting! Director Scott J. Gill, whom it would not surprise us at all to find out was paid by Jeremy for making such a friendly film, as enlightening as it is, follows Jeremy on and off the set and uses testimonials from friends, family, and co-stars, as well as home movies, public appearances, and footage from some of his 1,600 X-rated films to illustrate Jeremy's career thus far. Longtime fans, and there are many, will be pleased to see that the star also shares some of his sexual secrets, although there are no "money shots" -- not even in the unrated version. The most revealing sequence involves Jeremy's industry-mandated monthly blood test, and the cameras wait with him at the clinic until a nurse arrives to give him an all clear. Never in his life could Jeremy act that nervous that convincingly -- he fears for his life, and that's why he wants to go legit as soon as possible.
